HB 2 Passes, What's Next?

76-69 HB2 passes 11:26 p.m. to scattered applause. Motion to suspend the rules and allow HB2 to pass the House on Third Reading tonight. The motion passed 140-4, and we go straight to the Third Reading. 77-70 HB 2 passes. The House Ways and Means will take up HB 3 and Craddick says we'll be back on Tuesday and vote on the bill on Wednesday.

Update: Read Ray's comment for this post. Well done, Ray.

Yipee! I'm just excited something is happening. Anything at all.

Of course, I question the logic of voting on the same bill that failed to be taken up in the Senate again, expecting different results. That's the definition of something...

This is such crap. Just for the record, compare today's vote on HB 2 against the one in March. Some members wised up, some realized this was a shit bill, & some held their ground in the face of bullshit. Take a gander at some of the R's vote today & their vote last March. They looked the leadership in the eye. Early on, when Grusendorf was pretenting to hustle every along whenever a D stepped up to the mike, Isett stepped to the mike to question Casteel. She replied, "I thought yall wanted to move the process along, but of course I'll yield to you". Ya know, moving the process along, but stopping to burn members who question your faulty logic is bullshit, & I'm glad tonight that at least some ppl had the balls to step up. Props to Casteel, Geren, Hunter, Kuempel, Griggs, Hamilton, Goolsby, Smith, et. al. Let's all watch hb 3 languish in committee & die, thereby letting the courts decide what grusendouche warned us about: the courts deciding. you know what? at this point, i'm willing to let someone else other than the current leadership deal with this school finance mess. In my mind, they should be fired.

How many times will the El Paso deligation allow them selves to be used by Craddick. This is the third time they have been promised a hospital athe university of Texas El Paso for their support on bad bills and each time the money is pulled and used else were. Will they ever learn.

Its shitty that we in El Paso have to do this. We have been promised this funding so many times and too many sacrifices, such as this vote, El Paso county voting in favor for medical malpratice amendments, and sucking up to the speaker. This reminds me too of the Tigua tribe givng DeLay friends millions of dollars and getting screwed - we're damned in El Paso if we do, damned if we dont.

I think Rep. Chavez said it best today at a Mex American Demo meeting (where Rep. Chavez is the chair), and she said it sadly "The reality is, we're in a Republican state and we need this med school." It drove me sick when she said that, but I might have....might have is a big might, done the same thing. But I do thank Rep. Moreno for staying with our party and saying "This sucks" by voting no.

The only way that's going to change is to get the MOFOs out of office and turn our state blue again.

And kudos to Mike for the El Paso Delegation (except Our Conscience Moreno) - Tigua comparison. That is so dead on. How many times will you stand to be cheated by the white man for empty promises and broken treaties . . .

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
