Apropos of nothing: phallic imagery at the capitol

From a tipster:

ok so i was being a tourist in the capitol last friday, and i walked up the stairs on the side of the senate chamber. well i looked on the ground and this is what i found.
Okay, it's a slow day, folks. Give me some credit here. If you've got something better, send it on.

Ha! Speaking of Talton ... that picture of him in PD's school finance video is priceless. It captures the essence o' Bob so well. Bluebonnet, can you post it? I want a copy.

i think that's coming right out of perry's office

m.vindaloo at June 30, 2005 3:12 PM

I know PD's got it somewhere on the site and I can't find it. Here is a link to the original pic: http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2004-01-02/pols_roundup6-1.jpg

What a great moment in time for Talton.

A p*rick coming out of Perry's office. I'll say. (And Muchos gracias, bluebonnet.)

I'm afraid it's a bit late to alert Talton. Justice Rehnquist already ruled that the phallic tilework can stay:

"No exact formula can dictate a resolution to fact-intensive cases such as this. Despite the phallius' sexual message, an inquiry into the context in which the image of the phallus is used demonstrates that the phallus also conveys a nonsexual message about proper standards of social conduct and a message about the historic relation between those standards and the law. The circumstances surrounding the phallus's placement on the capitol grounds and its physical setting provide a strong, but not conclusive, indication that the imagery as used conveys a predominantly nonsexual message."

sarah at June 30, 2005 3:24 PM

A that message would be ... the legislative salute to the citizens of the State of Texas.

hungovertoo at June 30, 2005 3:28 PM

i'm SO glad i'm not the only one who thinks that about those tiles every FREAKIN TIME i walk in that place.
