Field Associate--LGRL

The Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas is seeking a field associate to direct its statewide field programs in Texas. Responsibilities

As a member of the LGRL leadership team, the Field Associate will play a key role in shaping the future of the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas, and increasing the effectiveness and capacity of our organizing strategies and public policy campaigns. The Field Associateâ??s responsibilities will include:

· Primary strategic leadership of the LGRLâ??s Field Program, related primarily to statewide political and legislative educational programs;

· Developing and implementing strategies to deploy LGRL members and volunteers to advocate for equal protections and equal rights for LGBT Texans;

· Providing guidance and support for LGRLâ??s geographically diverse national, state and local allies;

· Forging and strengthening collaborative efforts with communities of color and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities;

· Under the direction of the Executive Director, being a part of LGRLâ??s multi-disciplinary teams working to develop high impact strategies on critical issues;

· Working with the Executive Director to build and nurture effective multi-organizational coalitions on priority issues and statewide campaigns;

· Integrating new technology as a tool for activists to advance LGRLâ??s legislative agenda;

· Organizing major public events, public hearings, conferences and training opportunities;

· Supervising and coordinating all activities of field staff and volunteers, including orientation, training, team-building, problem-solving and evaluation through regular phone contact, site visits, and team and individual meetings;

· Responding to requests from Board members and LGRL activists;

· Working with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure development and execution of effective local volunteer recruitment and mobilization plans;

· Preparing reports, as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a sophisticated political activist (or legislative staffer and/or lobbyist) with a proven track record of accomplishments. Other qualifications will include:

· Extraordinary leadership skills;

· Substantial experience in developing successful political/legislative and activist campaigns;

· Ability to form and articulate a strategic vision for a more racially diverse and more effective field program;

· Experience with on-line organizing and communication;

· Familiarity and/or expertise in a broad range of civil liberties issues;

· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as a public spokesperson and advocate; a quick study on a dynamic array of issues;

· A deep and demonstrated commitment to the cause of equal rights and protections for LGBT citizens;

· Experience in working effectively with professional staff and in motivating and mobilizing communities of color and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities;

· Comfort with analyzing and articulating civil rights concepts and other complex issues and communicating them to a variety of audiences;

· Management experience -- supervising staff and juggling multiple priorities and projects effectively;

· Personal enthusiasm and optimism, along with a sense of humor.

Compensation:

Competitive salary, depending on experience.
