Countdown! What Had Happened??

PinkDome here. We are closing in on the time when we can get a little more sleep, drink a little more, curse our bosses as we drive out of the parking deck, stop wearing ties and pantyhose...ah...the end of the Session is near. You can almost smell it, can't you?

I thought we'd take a unscientific look back and ask you to help us add to the list as we prepare to take a couple of days off after session and then turn our burning wit onto other issues with Texas politics.

Best Moments This Year (Let's start on a high note)
Hubert Vo's Challenge not being a slam dunk for the Republicans gave us hope. (It was quickly dashed)
Senfronia Thompson: Just about every time she spoke, it reminded us what it feels like to stand up for what's right, to be passionate, and to have the fire in the belly for Texans and their rights. (If y'all are in the capitol, you really ought to go by her office and shake her hand.)
Carter Casteel calling out Hupp for the mean and ill-informed member that she is. Carter's stock keeps going up.
Senator Ellis and Hinojosa for trying to be brave Democrats.
The witnesses: on the awful legislation to erode civil rights this session, some of the bravest and most eloquent Texans stood up for what they believe. That's politics that we can be proud of.
Mary Denny. Without her some days we would have had nothing to write about.

And, The Worst. . . a much longer list, so add your own.
Tom Craddick. A terrible speaker, using arm-twisting and political idealogy and power above any efforts to improve the numerous bills he voted on this session.
Chisum-Talton-Hupp-Staples. This group of Republicans and their amazing stupidity that gets more impressive as the day goes by gets our award for 'Elected Official Most Likely To Make Us Join A Fringe Group'
Phil King. Moron. It's the nicest thing we could say.
The cheaters, philanderers, paid off shills for industry, etc.
The Legislation. OMG, THE LEGISLATION! (Sorry, I ran screaming out of the room for a minute.)

So, add your own in the comments. Let's get excited about sine die and a small break before PinkDome hits the ground running going after all those folks we ignored so far, he says...looking over his shoulder at Washington.

update: Comments are now closed.

I guess if this wasn't a self-declared liberal blog I would disagree. But seeing how you would never give credit to a any "true Republicans" (because we all know that people like Casteel, Merrit and Geron are really RINOs) I will treat this list much like your other ones - bullshit. Kudos to keeping the partisan spirit alive!

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 10:57 AM

PD's self-declared liberalism isn't a problem, IMO. But its self-declared "media" title cracks me up. Wonder if the real media was upset yesterday when PD outed the "conference call" particulars in its drunken gush over being in the same atmosphere as Wayne Slater. har.

Another Anonymous at May 27, 2005 11:32 AM

We laugh at being included in with the "media". We don't claim to be me media-types. Lord knows I never have.

bluebonnet at May 27, 2005 11:36 AM

I guess you also think Fred Hill is a RINO for opposing tax caps. Ever think that good policy should override "true beleivers" in the gop? I support calling Casteel, Merritt et al. RINO's, because it shines the light on how utterly pathetic the "true" gop platform is.

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 11:37 AM

I would call this the most weasly moment of the year. David Leibowitz voting against the gay foster care ban and HJR 6, only to write in the journal that he intended to vote FOR the gay foster care ban and FOR HJR 6.

anon at May 27, 2005 11:50 AM

watching the gov and other heavy hitters sign bibles on the house floor opening day really freaked the shit outa me and it all went down hill from there.

house monkey at May 27, 2005 12:06 PM

How about the presence of blogs this session? Even if some, like Pink Dome, are biased and ill informed and need jeanyusses like myself to correct them, they are a good thing in the grand scheme.

snrub at May 27, 2005 12:12 PM

Thompson was one of the worst reps this session. All She does is go up to the mic and blovate. Frankly, I think she's a racist bitch.

Paul at May 27, 2005 12:28 PM

I never really liked the name Paul, myself.

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 12:35 PM

Be quiet you whiny republicans. This blog isn't that mean. It's not like we're in a conference committee somewhere thinking of new ways to prevent kids from getting healthcare or something.

gulf coast dem girl at May 27, 2005 12:37 PM

Paul, why don't you grab your balls and say that somewhere else other than on a blog. If you're man enough to call Senfronia Thompson a bitch then you must be man enough to say it out loud.

gulf coast dem girl at May 27, 2005 12:44 PM

Women of power and intelligence are always called bitches. Only a white person who has never thought about race would call her racist. Take your white male privelege to the KKK blogs.

MonicaF at May 27, 2005 12:48 PM

I didn't know Rep. Talton's first name was Paul!

attila at May 27, 2005 12:53 PM

I'd delete Paul's comment, but I think y'all have said enough for us. And MonicaF, how right you are about vocal women!

bluebonnet at May 27, 2005 1:13 PM

In Paul's defense, Thompson was poorly-informed on MANY of the smaller bills. That, and her abrasive and exacerbatory style makes her something less than a credit to the House.

My submission for a "worst"? Mario Gallegos, everytime he opened his mouth. His constituents obviously don't watch the Senate floor debate.

Bubba Galt at May 27, 2005 1:57 PM

i've been around the capitol for 22 years and in a veriety of contentious situations -- i have heard a lot of things in moments of mindless anger, but the comments directed at ms. thompson are about as ignorant as i have seen. obviously, this no-doubt whippersnapper knows nothing, really, about the woman or her long history in the texas legislature and what she has been a part of in terms of the institutional processes of the house. Its funny, about the time this guy was writing this comment, ms. thompson was telling me how much she respected the way speaker craddick was sticking up for the position of the house in these final days. she is obviously capable of something her detractor is not -- to love her (political) enemy as she loves herself

lab at May 27, 2005 2:03 PM

Thanks for your thoughts, lab.

bluebonnet at May 27, 2005 2:11 PM

Trying to make things a little less partisan, here's my list:
Best Moments of the Year:
Gov. Dewhurst and his 31 - 0 votes
Sen. Hinojosa's staffer asking Sen. Lucio if he was doing alright after the car accident.

Worst Moments of the Year:
The death of Rep. Moreno
Senate/House fighting

Chamber Fly at May 27, 2005 2:22 PM

Best moment: Geren saving public education
Worst moment Geren having to save public education

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 2:52 PM

RINO, DINO, can't reps just vote their fucking district? Why do yo have to put labels on them?

Rico Politico at May 27, 2005 2:57 PM

***removed for irrelevancy to post***

Paul at May 27, 2005 3:03 PM

As I recall, this blog has called Mary Denny a whore who slept her way to the top, and comments ranged from stuff like "pigfucker" or some such nastiness. I'm for not getting personal and denigrating women on either side.

PD claims that the sort of insults towards Mary, with whom they disagree, are tongue in cheek and within the realm of free speech. Okay.

To their credit, it sorta seemed like PD stopped doing the over-the-top anti-female stuff a while back.

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 3:18 PM

Best Moment:
Any point of order (come on, you wouldn't be entertained without them...)
Sine Die (if there's no special session)

Worst Moment:
Adopting the chuck wagon as the state vehicle
Cheerleading bill getting out of committee...
Sine Die (in case there IS a special session)

housemessenger at May 27, 2005 3:18 PM

PD...your sad. I'm done here.

Paul at May 27, 2005 3:19 PM

Sorry to lose you, Paul. Can we get back on topic now? Best and worst of the session.

bluebonnet at May 27, 2005 3:22 PM

HAHAHAHA! You are removing comments now? That's funny (and expected, you little baby). But to achieve "relevency to the post" I think the lowest point in session was when Thompson violently yanked the mic from Grusendorf. Tacky. Trashy.

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 3:31 PM

GOD why won't these fucking republicans just go AWAY?? MUST they always be around to ruin our FUN?? Get your own fucking blog.
PS - Stop inviting them to our parties! This applies to the interns who are in Dem offices, don't know what side of the fence to play on (politically and/or sexually), and if that were not bad enough, they invite their stupid little republican friends along. That shit will NOT be tolerated next session!

gulf coast dem girl at May 27, 2005 3:52 PM

Where did all this hate for PinkDome come from? And, who gives a fuck? While y'all are sitting in the capitol, I've just come in from the pool...wiped the chlorine from my eyes and put down my cocktail to see so much hate. Must be the heat. As for PD being sad, irrelevant or 'media' thank you my darlings. You've come back every day to read with great anticipation what might appear in the blogs this session and we thank you for it. Your hate here at the end may become our 'worst' for the session.

You obviously all need a day off, some good liquor and a nice piece of ass. I'm enjoying all three today. xo.

oh, and Carter still rocks. and Senfronia can kick your ass on statesmanship...and humor at what she knows is sham politics.

And how could I end a post without saying pigfucker, whore, or Phil King abuses teenage girls?

PinkDome at May 27, 2005 3:54 PM

You GO, Gulf Coast Democrat GRRRRL! Have 'em all line up and show their credentials before you let them in! Don't tolerate this shit next session! You shouldn't tolerate those dumb interns, either- make them prove their sexuality BEFORE they can come to a Gulf Coast Democrat GRRRL party!

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 3:58 PM

PinkDome rocks! I just must buy you a cocktail on Sine Die, baby!

TallTxChick at May 27, 2005 4:01 PM

Best moments: Giving the Daily Show so much to work with...Worst moment:
That even the Daily Show could only give high-lights of the craziness.

Also, what was that house monkey was saying about signing the Bibles on the floor? He's fucking kidding, right?

BFSCR at May 27, 2005 4:04 PM

As for "pigfuckers" you don't really understand that expression until you picture Wilber from Charlotte's Web up against the wall.

I use the term often myself in reference to men who can't handle smart women. (See Phil King)

TallTxChick at May 27, 2005 4:06 PM

Hey! talltxchick I wish I WAS kidding I really saw that shit I was on the floor and he was signing bibles along with others and I will never forget it.I have no problem with people who read the good book buut when they bring it to the house floor to get signed like a teen who wants a new kids on the block autograph I am amazed.I thought we lived in a place where your god and or my god do not come into play when we make law .

housemonkey at May 27, 2005 4:48 PM

i would bet all the anti-PD posts are from one person. *I* still love you, pd!

drinks at the stephen f at May 27, 2005 6:05 PM

I was taught early on in my West Texas childhood: "never do business with anyone who carries a Bible out of church."
Today I proudly wear my new Kinky Friedman t-shirt: "May the god of your choice bless you."

TallTxChick at May 27, 2005 6:39 PM

Anonymous, I hate to break it to you, but Senfronia's act of ripping the microphone out of Grusendork's hands was most definitely the best moment of the session. Not only that, it saved Texas' public education...

But you know, it's all in a day's work.

Worst moment of session? The love affair that is Craddick/Grusendorf. It honestly just makes me retch.

elsie at May 27, 2005 7:04 PM

Wait a second, wait a second, PD, you wear ties AND pantyhose? Hmm...

Anonymous at May 27, 2005 8:09 PM

Best moment: House floor debate on HB 1476. The House spent an hour and ten minutes on this laughable matter. Consider what else they might have been doing (to us) during that time. A couple of decades ago, I thought most of what the lege did was pretty silly. Nowadays, I pray they do little more than resolving on chuckwagons and dutch ovens.

Worst moment: Grusendorf's flameout on vouchers in SB 422. He and the speaker burned so many Repubs so badly that Craddick might have to 'promote' the Grooster to chairing State Affairs. Lord help us if they install someone as chair of Public Ed who can actually pass bills.

Capitolist at May 27, 2005 9:43 PM

What the fuck...did Craddick just discover PD....I have never seen so much ill. Fuck Robert Talton Fuck Warren Chisum and Fuck Todd Staples and the whole entire lot of pig fuckers that pushed the right wing agenda. Gay bashing is so uncool and those mother fuckers made thier session out of it. We will look back upon this session with emabarassment and shame in thirty years and if you think other wise go fuck yourself!

Jake at May 27, 2005 9:51 PM

and another the Ms. T rocks and so do all women that stand up for what what is right.

Best moment has to be watching the R staffers get thier panties ina wad over PD...what assholes...go take care of the foster children that your bosses almost fucked over...HA

Jake at May 27, 2005 9:58 PM

Wow, guys. So a political blog like this is only supposed to be an echo chamber for "progressives?"

That sort of intolerance makes you guilty of the same affronts you accuse Talton, Chisum, and Staples of committing. At least those guys had the guts to sit and listen for 12 hours to those who disagreed with them. Not very progressive of you. Not very progressive at all.

What is a troglodyte like me to do, if he can't engage in debate and be persuaded of the error of his ways? This, too, is truly a low point in the session.

Bubba Galt at May 27, 2005 10:22 PM

Ah, we made it to 41 comments before someone threw out the word 'troglodyte'. That's got to be some sort of record. Sweet.

PinkDome at May 27, 2005 11:13 PM

Would you have preferred australopithecine?

Bubba Galt at May 27, 2005 11:36 PM

How about asshole!

Jek at May 28, 2005 10:43 AM

Best moment-Senfornia opening the gapping orface she calls a mouth and showing the house how much of a fucking racist assclown she is.

Worst Moment-Every time that fat bitch steps up to the mic.

Wakka Wakka at May 28, 2005 11:39 AM

What does that mean? Racism has everything to do with power and last time I checked in with reality black dem women were pretty low on the pecking order? Why does Ms. T bother you right winger so much? Is it because she speaks the truth? How do you feel about Paul Moreno? Hat him too don't you? What about Garnet Coleman?

Let's hear what you have to say about them bring it the fuck on !

Gloria Hole at May 28, 2005 12:15 PM

I am all about a civilized debate on politics. Incorporating cuss words into an 'educated' argument is well, it's adolescent. If you're going to express your opinion on anything the least you can do is give your reasons why people are fuckers rather than using the F-word 7 times in a posting.

Anonymous at May 28, 2005 12:30 PM

And with that, we're closing comments on this post. Where's the love, people? Pinkdome is not about the hate, and it is spewing everywhere on this comment string. Thanks for everyone's insights that really had to do with the original post. Now go caption that picture.
