The Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging has selected Rep. Debbie Riddle as their "Legislator of the Year" recipient. The selection most certainly was made by a group of Alzheimer's patients cause this is lacking in lucidity. (Did I just make up that word?) Oh well, it can't be as crazy as this is!
Press Release after the jump.
REP. RIDDLE TO RECEIVE "LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR"
For Immediate Release
Monday, May 16, 2005
AUSTIN - State Representative Debbie Riddle (R-District 150) will receive the Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging's (TAHSA) "Legislator of the Year" award for her contribution to long-term care issues.
Rep. Riddle chaired the Long-Term Care Legislative Oversight Committee during the 78th Legislative Interim. During this tenure, she tackled difficult issues such as Medicaid reimbursement rates, method of financing, and quality of care.
During her chairmanship, she addressed the need for the increase of Medicaid reimbursement rates by examining innovative methods of financing such as incentivizing private long-term care insurance. The other major problem area that overwhelms long-term care providers is the availability and affordability of liability insurance, which was studied during the interim.
"I am proud to be receiving such a prestigious award through an organization that I believe is working to progress the quality of long-term care. Long-term care issues will continue to dominate the legislature in the coming years. It is necessary to assist the seniors of Texas and provide the best quality of care that they deserve," said Rep. Riddle.
Texas ranks among the top ten states in the country in total spending on nursing home care, with expenditures totaling $1.95 billion in Fiscal Year 2004. According to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, by the year 2004, Texans age 60 and older is projected to grow to 8.1 million.
The awards ceremony is expected to take place on May 24, 2005 at the Renaissance Hotel during TAHSA's Annual Conference.

I am glad that there is finally a man like Dot Nelson with the balls to stand up to Debbie Riddle and let her know that undocumented workers from Mexico are here to stay and we deserve all of the rights of US Citizens because we live here too. My children need to be educated and my family cannot afford health care. A rich nation such as the USA should be able to support my family without too much problem. I work hard to feed my 9 children and I deserve my welfare check. I do not need to pay income tax with my all cash business because I pay sales tax. My son helped to raise the Mexico flag at his high school and got in trouble for it. We are now the majority and Texas had better get use to it. When Texas becomes Texico, I will try to be nice and understanding to all of the displaced rich white people. I might even let them cut my grass. Paybacks are hell…..Armando Martinez
