Look how sweet. If True.com online dating service has their way, this will be the only singles looking for love online. In a corporate war with Match.com, they have filed legislation to require criminal background checks before you can post your profile online.

Google search pulls up over 23 million results for 'online dating service' and one company in Texas thinks they all need a background check for singles in Texas.

This is nothing but the result of a corporate war between True.com and Match.com, two lame-ass websites.

Here's where we went WTF?

"I honestly think it is nothing but competitive rivalry and perhaps a bit of juvenile pettiness on the part of both companies," said Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas, who said he nevertheless filed the bill because he believes background checks protect the public.
Senator John Carona! We're shocked. This is really something we'd expect out of Bob Talton, but guess we'll have to lump you in the "my heart and my ass belong to special interest groups and those with fat checkbooks" group. According the the report by DMN, Amazon.com, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo all oppose this legislation. PinkDome.com thinks Carona should apologize for being such an pawn in this game.

Background checks for online dating, but not for gun purchases.

Gotta love the Republicans.

Same thing is going on in Florida, but true.com's lobbyist got caught lying to legislators saying that the Florida Police Chiefs Association supported their bill.

Wonder how many other states they are trying to push this in?

Here's what I like about true.com's opening page:

"Married People will be Prosecuted"

What the Fuck? Prosecuted...For adultery? Where, Utah?

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
