A Martha Wong constituent tells the tale of visiting the Capitol on Planned Parenthood's Lobby Day. It's nice to see the idealism and adrenaline rush and passion for one's convictions so decidedly smashed by Rep. Wong.
On Planned Parenthood's Lobby Day on March 1, guess who had the most constiuents visit her office? Yes, our fav feng shui mistress Martha Wong. Over 100 visitors came to Austin from District 134 in the hopes of meeting with Martha to discuss their concerns about family planning funding and emergency contraception (remember Prevention First!). But Rep. Wong refused to see those voters. She did send a staffer to say hello, but only showed her face to a couple of the visitors and only then to YELL at them because she didn't feel they
were sufficiently deferential to her back at the district...The snarl was something about "winning friends and influencing people". Uh Martha, aren't YOU supposed to be working for the constiuents and winning THEM over??? Nice touch.
She reminds me of Shirley McLaine in "Terms of Endearment," and Jack Nicholson's efforts to make her a human:
NICHOLSON: Trust me on this one thing -- you need a LOT of drinks.
McLAINE: Why?
NICHOLSON: To kill that bug that crawled up your ass.
Oh, it's bad energies in the Capitol extension that make one grouchy. Maybe a small mirror by the door jamb and a bit of green over the receptionists chair would do the trick.
