More on Women's History Month

Um, okay, sorry to anybody who doesn't live in Austin, but we just found this on Sarah's roman candles about a film screening on Wednesday evening at the new city hall.

All the info after the jump.

On a historic weekend in November 1977, 20,000 people from across the U.S. gathered in Houston, TX for the first federally funded National Women's Conference, aiming to end discrimination against women and promote their equal rights. In the crowd were former first ladies Betty Ford & Lady Bird Johnson, then current first lady Rosalyn Carter & women of all ages, ethnicities & political backgrounds.

Combining footage of the conference with interviews-both then & now-with influential womenâ??s leaders such as Barbara Jordan, Bella Abzug, Betty Friedan, Ann Richards, Gloria Steinem, & Liz Carpenter, SISTERS OF '77 is a fascinating look at that pivotal weekend in 1977, an event that not only changed the lives of the women who attended, but the lives of Americans everywhere.

In observance and celebration of Women's History Month, please join the Austin Commission for Women, and our partners, the Austin Women's Political Caucus, National Women's Political Caucus of Texas, and the Center for Women's and Gender Studies, UT Austin, in viewing a complimentary showing of this 50 minute film, produced by filmmakers Cynthia Salzman Mondell and Allen Mondell. This is the ONLY viewing that will be occurring in Austin.

Snacks & refreshments will be served in "The Bull Pen" (Rm. 1029), from 6:30-7:00 pm. The movie will begin at 7:00.
