Get PINKDOME Merchandise!

Catty. Chatty. And Occasionally Trashy.

Liquor's for Drinking, Water's for Fightin

We really do try to follow your tips, so if you know of anything going down that the mainstream media ain't covering, drop us a line - to either Pinky or Bluebonnet.

We have learned (from yet another tipster linked to an aquifer) about the organizing of people in the Kinney County angry about the way their state Senators (Madla and Armbrister, as posted yesterday) are letting their big contributors rule over their constituents. We're just amazed that such a thing would happen in Texas! (/sarcasm)

After the jump.

Kinney County's joining the water wars:

Johnson believes that unscrupulous "water speculators" are using the wealth of their companies and their personal influence to sway legislators like Texas Sen. Frank Madla - who represents Kinney County and Val Verde County - and state Sen. Ken Armbrister, R-Victoria, chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, to enact legislation that will pave the way for water marketers to begin exporting hundreds of thousands of gallons of groundwater out of Kinney County.

Johnson claims that water speculators are working with certain landowners in Kinney County, landowners who want to sell their water rights.

Water pumped from those ranches and farms will then be exported to east Texas, Johnson told the group.

Johnson said the most recent volley in the "water wars" is that Armbrister and Madla - who have apparently taken thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from water marketing companies - are preparing to introduce a bill or an amendment to a bill to the state Legislature that will abolish the Kinney County Groundwater Conservation District.

"Armbrister and Madla have betrayed us out here in west Texas," Johnson said.
