Profiles in Courage
President Obama, on the very day North Carolina voters put a ban on civil unions and marriage equality in their state constitution, spoke out on Marriage Equality. The news, on a Wednesday no less, has dominated the news cycle. To me, it is nice to see a leader be so bold on an issue that for such a long time has been considered political suicide. While it really comes as no shock to anyone that has paid attention to President Obama’s record on gay rights, it is still a shock to hear it said out loud from the office of the President of the United States that every American should have the same legal rights granted in a marriage.
