There’s a heat wave torturing most of us this summer, but it pales in comparison to the heated rhetoric coming out of Washington these days. As the media turns up the gas on the debt ceiling and budget talks and with a twisted glee almost hopes for a financial disaster just because it would make great news, the rest of the country wonders why in the hell our leaders can’t figure it out.
I’ve never been much of a “throw the bums out” kind of voter, but both the Republicans and Democrats that forget to govern there must be compromise are going to drive the country to bankruptcy just for the sheer hell of it, are turning me into one disgusted voter.
It amazes me how the politicians forget that people are struggling with a bad economy, trying to scrape by and rebuild savings and hoping they don’t get laid off from their jobs and they stand at a podium and claim to know what Americans want. They truth is, they have no idea. What do Americans really want? They want stability and leadership.
I have spent years being fired up and I guess I still am, but mostly I just ignore it. If the country falls off a financial cliff I am lucky enough to have enough financial ability to survive and thrive. Maybe I’ll even pack it up here and take my money and just retire early in a beautiful place and contribute to some other economy.
I can tell you that I am sick and tired of our country’s elected officials being so short-sighted they are excited about how the country is falling apart so they can point at the other party and say, “I told you so.”
