It’s not about a birth certificate…
President Obama actually called a press conference to present his birth certificate to the media. Let’s be clear, he wasn’t addressing the small percentage of mouth breathing barbarians that suffer from delusions. He was addressing the 24 hour news channels. The ones that give anybody a microphone.
The news may truly be the “lame street media’s” fault (ugh, not sure about my punctuation there) and it breaks my heart to have to say that. The fact that content is created by everybody with a blogger login or good hair and a bright smile for TV is enough for me to become a luddite. Just because someone says something stupid doesn’t mean we have to give it credence or treat it like it needs to be debated.
When an idiot says the aliens probed him while he watched a rerun of Matlock we don’t encourage a national debate about whether alien probing constitutes sexual assault. We simply nod our heads and say, “That’s right, you public school educated lower middle class American with cheese stained fingers, you were probed and the government is going to shoot down the next UFO that enters our airspace.”
I love to hear the news media defending themselves for reporting this story. They claim, but it is news! The president had to stop his schedule and present his birth certificate because crazy and stupid people were being crazy and stupid! No. We don’t have to report on it. Not at all.
What we should have seen from the news media these past few weeks were, in no particular order:
- Long term unemployment is stagnant.
- China’s economy is poised to replace the US economy by 2016 as the world’s largest economy.
- Not one Wall Street firm has been prosecuted for stealing from Americans.
- The middle class that made this country great has disappeared.
But, here’s the thing about reporting on these news items mentioned above. You can’t just have people on TV yelling at each other about how it is Obama’s fault or the Republicans fault or no one is working together to find solutions. You have to educate the people on these issues through well thought out and well written news stories. Something I am beginning to believe is next to impossible considering what I’m seeing and reading these days.
Makes me want to puke. Oh how I long for the days when it was just politicians that I thought were nincompoops. Now it’s everyone!
