Put the race card down, sir
A black Ivy League scholar was arrested and the black community is way overreacting. So much so that they are probably creating racists.
Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested at his home. Apparently someone called in to police reporting a possible burglary. When the policy tried to speak with Mr. Gates he immediately attacked them and disrespescted the officer. He refused to show his identification that would have clearly shown he was at his own home and instead he taunted the officer with “‘Why, because I’m a black man in America?”
No, Mr. Gates, not because you are a black man in America but because a police officer is trying to do his job, but you go ahead and lash out and disrespect a peace officer and shout racism…that’s ok.
Look, racism exists in this country and it’s awful. But, not every slight against a black person or Hispanic person or gay person is racism or bigotry or unjust. The very real issues of racism are diluted when something like this makes the front page of CNN.com.
In an interview, Mr. Gates says:
“The police report says I was engaged in loud and tumultuous behavior. That’s a joke,” Gates told The Root. “It escalated as follows: I kept saying to him, ‘What is your name, and what is your badge number?’ and he refused to respond. I asked him three times, and he refused to respond. And then I said, ‘You’re not responding because I’m a black man, and you’re a white officer.’”
Really? Any time a police officer has asked me to comply with a request I have. Maybe you deserve what you got because you sound kind of like an asshole. And then the “response” comments are awesome, too.
Kim Coleman, a Washington radio host, cultural commentator and blogger, said she grew numb when she saw the mugshot.
Kim says she was not prepared for that and began to cry. Kim needs to get some hobbies in her life and develop some coping skills, but that’s for her family to decide the best course of treatment for her.
Ugh.
We have real problems in this country. An Ivy League professor getting arrested for being an asshole to a cop isn’t one of them. Turn in your race cards, people. The whining is getting a little loud.
For example, the post directly below this one is a real-live example of how bigotry and ignorance persuade national policy. That’s an important issue, not something trivial like this. I wonder how Kim Coleman would react to seeing the beaten body of a gay man?

Gates has always been and always will be a race baiter. Obama’s comments on the situation were premature, uninformed and clearly influenced by his friendship with Gates.
I think Gates response to Officer Crowley’s request to speak with him outside the home ” Ill speak with your mama outside” clearly illustrate the situation as it played out. He deserved handcuffs and maybe a spary of mace in ther for good measure.
