It’s Voter ID time again: Much ado about nothing

April 6, 2009 Uncategorized

The House refuses to be outdone by the Senate and they will take up the Voter ID legislation this week. Once again hundreds will line up to testify for and against. Personally, I have an ID so I could give three shits whether or not I have to show it to vote or not. But, it sure does seem like a whole lot of hub-ub over something that isn’t really a big deal. And, that, my good friends is the speciality of the Texas Legislature.

Here’s Leo Berman: “There’s so much fraud that even the district attorney or the attorney general won’t prosecute it,” Berman said. “If they did, they’d have to stop prosecuting murderers and rapists.”

And here’s Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg: Generally, Lehmberg said, voter impersonation “doesn’t appear to be a problem.” And here’s what other district attorneys say: The ID issue is “not on our radar screen,” said Rob Kepple, executive director of the Texas District & County Attorneys Association. “We haven’t heard any prosecutors raising concerns one way or the other.”

So, instead of focusing on jobs, the economy, energy policy, increasing violence on the border, taxes, education policy or when Shapiro will wear that white denim suit with a gold chain as a belt again. Priorities, people!
