Sticking with Craddick
Dawna Dukes is quoted in the Statesman saying that she will stick with Craddick. Rep. Dukes, am I not mistaken that it was you that was in Craddick’s office after the last brouhaha and you were crying and very upset trying to figure out what to do and Craddick wouldn’t even meet with you to tell you it would be alright and he wouldn’t screw you over if you voted for him as Speaker?

Bluebonnet - why don’t you look at the bills she sponsored and passed this session (and amended to other bills.) You can not be both honest and accurate when you say stupid things like that.

I live in her district. And you’re right, it sure does suck to have an Austin rep, who can actually get bills set (hers and others) on the Major State Calendar.
PinkRead: Can you tell us what her accomplishments are this session? I can only see seven bills currently passed. Her non-traitor neighbor Naishtat has more passed — but doesn’t have her bad votes on countless Democratic red-meat issues.
You think Dem primary voters will be more grateful for her film incentive bill that doesn’t really impact most of them, or the APD bill (if any constituency in Austin is wary of APD, it’s hers), rather than consistently voting with Craddick on CHIP, the environment, veterans, teachers, and so on?
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out this cycle.
I don’t presume to be an expert on legislative matters, but from the outside looking in, I have to seriously question whether an 11th hour challenge to the Speaker is really the best use of our legislature’s time right now — especially when there’s still so much unfinished business left to do this session that’s far more important to the people of Texas (and especially when one considers that the only realistic alternative to the Speaker would be another conservative Republican).
And btw? If you’re going to attack someone and make ridiculous (and arguably sexist) allegations, you might want to at least spell their name right in the interest of credibility.
Dukes can go to hell. Austin doesn’t need her sorry ass.

Dukes district is going from Brown to Black. I hope good hispanics file against her and Ruth McClendon - both can be taken out
and let’s not forget that she has a lezzies and homos that live in her district. We need a hot blatino dyke to run for that seat.
Austin needs to dump her just like Senator Ellis did!
Rep. Dukes is right not to fight the Speaker at this point. He is a tin-pot autocrat, but with only days left in the session and HB1 still in play, the smart thing is to save that fight for later.
I am on the executive board of the Texas State Employees Union and a resident of Rep. Dukes’ district. The simpleminded sentiments expressed detracting from her representation of the citizens of East Austin and eastern Travis County are naive and short-sighted. Rep. Dukes is one of the most astute politicians under the dome, one who represents her constituents well. There is not another politician in a leadership position who has fought harder for state employee pay raises. University workers like me have not received a state funded pay raise in six years. Rep. Dukes is trying to get us included in any across-the-board pay raise while other legislative players are willing to funnel money into merit raise slush funds for upper management and their cronies. We need legislators like Dawnna Dukes, and I, for one, am proud to say she represents me.
She’s positioning to be a lobbyist next session. She won’t be running for reelection. Seen it before.
