KBH doesn’t believe in a free internet
I went to this site to see what our wonderful senators thought about net neutrality. I expected Cornyn to be the one that was against it, but surprisingly, he has made no decision either way. However, would-be gubernatorial candidate Sen. Hutchison is the one to agree with Rep. Stevens.
Remember guys - it’s not a truck; it’s a set of tubes. And they should all be regulated paid for.
I heard a story on NPR yesterday afternoon about a mom who reads her daughter’s LJ page. Her defense was that the internet is free, so anything there is available (and I would add that if you post anything on the internet without proper privacy settings, your parents will be able to find it). Hmm. Maybe not for long, huh?

Great video (via utube) on the Ted Stevens “tube” comment:

Most politicians don’t even know how to make copies or make their own coffee - and we expect them to make good decisions about the Internet??
i heard someone recently describe this net neutrality issue as the “biggest affront to our civil liberties EVER.”
and yet just today i read about a judge throwing out an investigation into the domestic wiretapping scheme, and see that the Senate has just passed a ban on transporting teens across state lines for abortions.
because you know that domestic spying ain’t shit compared to my right to surf the internet motherfuckingfreely, and why in the hell would teens need help getting abortions in sanctimonious footloose states if they’d just keep their legs shut? like you and me did?
whatthef-EVER.
and then i started to wonder about the disconnect to the real fucking world and “progressives.” and then i got drunk.
I got drunk too.
I sent both Cornyn and Hutchinson letters about net neutrality. I framed the issue in terms of competitive advantage of US firms versus foreign firms. I got a letter back from Cornyn’s office which didn’t take a position on the bill, but recognized that getting rid of net neutrality would make the cost of doing business in the US higher, and for firms trying to beusiness with foreign clients, it would put them at a disadvantage.
That made me feel good, that someone in Cornyn’s office realized net neutralisty support was more than just a bunch of people who like to check out YouTube. That net neutrality was good for bidness.
From Hutchinson? No response.
I guess I should have proofread that response before sending it…
