HB 110, filed by Villareal and Strama, is likely making James “Whoremonger” Leininger pretty pissy this morning. The bill would limit individuals to spending no more than $100,000 on political races each election cycle.
Clearly, this would throw a monkey wrench in Leininger’s ultimate goal to have the entire Legislature receiving the overwhelming majority of their campaign contributions from his coffers. I mean, he funded five last session - why stop there?
But this bill wouldn’t just affect Leininger:

Eighty-seven individuals or couples gave $100,000 or more in contributions for statewide offices in 2003 and 2004, for a total of $28.8 million, according to the Austin-based watchdog group Texans for Public Justice. That represents about 9 percent of all political money raised during that two-year election cycle.

I sense a Whoremonger PAC in the future.
