Get Your Hands Off of me, You Damn, Dirty Ape!

Is it radical extremists? Terrorists? Nope…it’s illegal immigrants! According to Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo said about immigrants: “And they need to be found before it is too late. They’re coming here to kill you, and you, and me, and my grandchildren,” he said, pointing at people in the audience. “It’s just despicable.”
Wow, those damn, dirty Mexicans man…I knew they were plotting to kill me. Whoops! No they aren’t. You can contact the Congressman at: DC Office
1130 Longworth HOB
Washington, DC 20515-0606

I did, here’s a brief transcript:
PD: Uhm, I just read the Congressman said immigrants were coming here to kill us? Is that your real position or did he have some sort of brain aneuryism?
Staffer: Hold on, please for a second. (Muffled voices)
Staffer: That statement was taken out of context.
PD: Oh, ok…so in what context would it be ok to say immigrants are coming here to kill us?
Staffer: The congressman believes that illegal border crossing are a threat to homeland security.
PD: So, he wants to like build a fence or something and keep them all out?
Staffer: Yes.
PD: Is the Congressman retarded?
Staffer: Uhm, no.
PD: Oh, cause I think he is. I bet you are embarrassed to work for him, aren’t you.
Staffer: Uhm.
PD: That’s ok, I’ll let you go now. You probably have some mood elevators to take anyway.

  1. newswatching says:

Even reading the quote OUT of context, which it obviously was, it’s pretty clear he’s talking about terrorists taking advantage of lax immigration laws. Not once did it occur to me that he meant the average immigrant was coming here to kill me.

  2. pinkdome says:

But what terrorists have come across the Mexican border? Didn’t they all come through Canada? That’s the place we should be worried about…those damn Canadians!
And besides, since 2001 no one has come to America to kill us. It’s called fear-mongering.

  3. drinks_at_the_stephen_f says:

Then newswatching, you need to start watching the news. Actually, Tancredo has often taken a position similar to Bill O’Reilly’s, which is to make sure everyone remembers that some of the people who rape and kill are immigrants - even though the majority of rapists and killers are U.S. citizens.
So, newswatching, if you’ve actually been newswatching it would have in fact occurred to you that he could have been talking about plain old immigrants, not terrorists.

  4. texxas redd says:

Last I checked, Colorado isn’t a border state. Is Tancredible afraid of NEW Mexicans? I’d be more afraid of mormon mauraders swarming in from the west stealing all their women.

  5. Cody says:

    Fear monger or HATE monger?

  6. jd0505 says:

Does anyone have an actual transcript of this speech? If it’s “out of context,” I’d at least like to see the context, in full if possible. Thanks!

  7. Wonk says:

Win, lose or draw something HAS to be done about immigration.

  8. RockStar says:

I’d agree with wonk on that - most people, i think, would agree on that. I don’t think putting illegal immigration into the context of terrorism is the answer. Why not up the number of green cards for Mexican citizens, since they’re our neighbors, and deal with terrorism in the context of terrorism, not guestworker programs. that’s just stupid.

  9. buskyandme says:

Those would probably be the same illegal immigrants that twice in the twice year stopped and rendered help to me… once for a flat tire…once for running out of gas….as a woman in Texas I would rather see a truck and trailer of mexican yard workers stopping to help me out than a pickup truck with “legal” redneck!….I fell safe with the first!

  10. Marie says:

Currently the US makes only 10,000 visas for low-skilled laborers available for the entire world. When people say, get in line, wait in line, they have to know that there IS no line. The visas are gone before anyone can apply for them.

  11. RockStar says:

Woah, Marie - SNAP. Good info.

  12. boadicea says:

    You give the best snark.

  13. Wonk says:

I mean I really cant fault someone who comes here and busts his ass for his family. Nontheless, its gotten out of hand and something has to be done.
The one thing that has my blood boiling is these punk ass teenagers marching out of class to go protest. They don’t have a fucking clue its just an excuse to cut class.

  14. treehugger says:

They have enough of a fucking clue to take advantage of the opportunity to cut class….and that is as American as it gets.

  15. Wonk says:

    HA HA.
    True.
    They’re still litte shits though….

  16. Laughing_at_Wonk says:

I think you’re just looking for an excuse to point your finger and call someone, anyone, a punk ass.
    Hope you feel better.

Thats right folks I have 2 stalker’s now.

  19. RockStar says:

You may be right about some of the students, but I guess it really isn’t IMPOSSIBLE that some of them might ACTUALLY CARE about this issue, seeing as how it’s their own parents and grandparents who are being affected.
The worst part about being young is that they’re damned if they do (they’re protesting just to get out of school) and damned if they don’t (they’re lazy, me-first kids who don’t care about anything that matters).
I say give props to the students who are doing this for the right reasons. It’s about time we saw the young people engaged in politics again.

  20. trza says:

speaking as a New Mexican, we don’t really like Coloradoans, but I don’t think any of us want to kill them. So I don’t think he’s right on that count, either.

  21. Dont Mess w/ Pink says:

So if someone immigrates to New Mexico, I guess that makes them a New New Mexican.

  22. Yucca says:

Thanks for the NM quote trza. I thought I was the only New Mexican here…
As for the punk ass teenagers…My local high school in Santa Fe, NM had a walkout over the immigration issue: They protested, one guy was arrested for disorderly conduct, then THEY WENT BACK TO CLASS!
At the middle school next door, the principal allowed the students to make signs and discuss the problem in an open forum during lunch, thus preventing the walkout. If they were just cutting class, they would have walked out regardless.
The only part that frightened me was that only half of the students at the HS were pro-immigration. The other half was made up of kids who’s families have been in NM for generations. They were holding up signs that said “Immigrant - go home.”
To say that these kids don’t have a clue and are just cutting class for no reason might not be completely accurate.

  23. Wonk says:

Yeah there reason is to protest, but they dont undertand it. They see they freinds walking out and they just follow the herd.
Granted that migh not be all of them but, I’d be willing to bet its the majority.

Just because it is illegal doesn’t mean it is against the law.
