Filibuster? What’s that?
January 27, 2006 Uncategorized
Ok, Just woke up from a glorious nap. It seems like the whole country started talking about a filibuster while I was dozing on my sofa. Doomed, they say, Quixotic, they say, Weak, the say. WE SAY: Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t. The Dems are either attacked for having no spine, taking no action and not standing up to fight against the Republican leadership or they are attacked for doing it. As a student of politics and political theatre, I hope for a filibuster. Call your senators and beg them to not vote for cloture. Let us live-blog the United States Senate full of cots and John Kerry reading “Moby Dick” into the microphone. We’d love it.
We also think that those people that keep demanding the Senate give Alito an ‘Up or down vote’ like the President asked is proof that we have absolutely no independent thinking and no analysis in the media that are so quick to parrot these Republican talking points.
An up or down vote is great if you don’t already know the outcome. If you know the outcome then you are just being a bully by demanding it, you are stifling dissent and not allowing the minority to passionately express their views and you are refusing to compromise or negotiate. The exact opposite of what you are innocently claiming with your flippant, “Let them eat cake” for the confirmation of a Justice to the Supreme Court.
So, suck my dick if you think we don’t want to see a filibuster and if you think we’re pussies for having the back of those that support it. We’re not supporters of lost causes, but we are supporters of people being brave enough to stand up for what they believe in, and for begging us to pay attention.
Well we take it back, not everybody is talking about filibusters. That blonde bitch Nancy Grace at CNN is talking about another missing white girl.
