Bell has officially thrown his hat in the ring.
So now I have interviewed an official candidate for Governor. Sweet! Too bad I’m sorta anonymous, because I would totally brag.

to note: the time stamps on the post for BOR and QR are a minute behind Bluebonnet’s post…
PD: always on top of things (people AND politics)
Who are his consultants?
WOW an announcment via e-mail, how exciting!!!
I actually never signed up for the e-mail list. I hate to admit that I was just refreshing his blog, and that’s how I found out.
cuz I can’t tell if you were being sarcastic or not. I’m guessing - yes.
I was being sarcastic. I just imagined him trying to fire up us fellow democrats by doing a big announcment and not something via e-mail. I just do not find it very exiciting. Just a campaign mistake in my mind.
PGH,
Read his letter. Then plan to go to the announcement rally on August 14th in Austin. I’ll be there.
I will be there so I can finally get some signs, bumper stickers and all that good stuff that a campaign normally has.
So if a gubernatorial candidate announces his candidacy via email and no one is lucky enough to be refreshing his blog does it count as an announcement???
Will someone give please give Chris Bell the phone numbers to the Texas press corp. Jeeze, can this guy be more pathetic?
TO TOTRTS:
You are so fricking clever, you should sign on as somebody’s consultant.
Hold up there buddy, that is not what I am doing. I am a democrat all the way through and plan on voting for the democratic candidate. All I am saying is that Chris Bell and his boys need to step it up a notch and get their crap together.
Let me get this Strait. Kinky can announce at the Alamo on national tv (albeit MSNBC)and the leading contender on the Democratic side sends out an e-mail. Better pray that Kinky makes the dance so Bell doesn’t lose by 40% pts.
All you haters, get your heads out of your asses. Chris has been on all 4 network affiliates since 11:00 am in Houston. I can understand if the news didn’t make it on the Austin stations. Nothing trumps the latest breaking news of people crashing into each other on I-35.
TO SM:
Are ya offering me a job then? I would gladly take the job of a high priced consultant. Its not like I could do any worse than the Democrats have already demostrated these last few elections, but wait that’s right, the dems couldn’t afford me if they can barely afford to pay the staff that remains in their organization.
For the record I consider myself a democrat, but I am tired of the party getting behind LAME ASS candidates like Chris Bell. How about they throw their support behind a person who isn’t white, rural, and more importantly hasn’t voted for Bush in any election. Just a thought.
Yes I realize Bell is not rural and hasnt voted for Bush. Sure Bell would probably be more than qualified to run for class president maybe even mayor, but governor? How about a more feasible possition like ag commish?
Who is the only candidate between both parties that has actually excited the folks who are tired of this duopoly of a system we have here in Texas? Why is Texas the ONLY state in the union who requires a candidate whose party isn’t dem or repug to wait after the primaries to gather their 45,000+ signatures JUST to get on the “frickin” (people still say that?)ballot. Is that DEMOCRACY?
Why are folks so loyal to one party anyways? What have the dems done for Texas lately? Oh yeah, thanks Al Edwards for protecting me from the terrorism known as cheerleading dancing. Thank you Frank Madla for standing up (changing his vote) to the man and protecting me from the scourge known as gay marriage. Thank you Armbrister for allowing developers pollute my water supply. Thank you Royce West for legislating state funds for the RICHEST franchise in sports to build a stadium. Should I continue??
Yes I know there are certainly some gems out there with the Austin delgation in the House as well as members like Coleman, Thompson, Hochberg, et al. Even the senate has some with Shapleigh, (surprisingly) Whitmire, Zaffirini, Gallegos, and Ellis.
I love how people (dems) think that even the suggestion of Kinky Friedman is an insult to their intelligence. Wake up peeps the dems are sinking. It isn’t like you can NEVER vote for the respective party of your choice again if you vote for Kinky or someone else for that matter. If yall honestly think that Bell is the answer to the Dems comeback in Texas go ahead vote for him, but if not, why not Kinky? He’s got more substance than the whole legislature combined.
Oil in the Senate… as in the oil from Lucio’s hair or the lube that Dewhurst uses with the Senate Republicans behind closed doors?
I would also like to point out Kinky’s track record - rather impressive. Not to mention he runs an animal shelter out of his own pocket.
Lets also not forget that Bell lost his primary run. He lot the primay election. Should I repreat it again? How on earth do you expect a man who lost his primary election to win a state-wide race? I think it is safe to say he will not win the district he represented?
The problem the Democrats have can’t really be covered in a post on a blog. I would suggest that thought be given to why so many Democrats are now Republicans. The answer could very well be that the Democratic party has to be a minority party in order to carry the issues that are most imporant to its members. Remember that we’re all Americans and Texans and then members of a party and that the average American and Texan don’t worry about any of it too much.
How stupid can some of you people be? How does it help anything or anyone in the Democratic Party to tear down Chris Bell? Don’t like him? Don’t vote for him in the primary. Support a joke like Kinky if you wish. But to just trash the guy with lies and bull—- is really regrettable.
He lost a primary. Yeah, in an overwhelmingly black district to a black opponent. Thank you Tom DeLay.
He also won an incredibly competitive primary two years earlier against three well funded, credible opponents. Funny how you fail to mention that.
Many also thought him to be the gold standard when he served on the Houston City Council, passing ethics reforms and other good government measures. That’s why people sent him to Congress where he was also a star. He was also a great lawyer and a great reporter before that.
I have been represented by him when he was on both City Council and in Congress, have been a supporter for years and have closely followed his career. So all I would ask is that if you want to build up your candidate, go for it, but don’t try to do so by leveling falsehoods and misrepresentations against Chris. He’s a smart, funny, inspirational guy and we’d be damn lucky to have him as our nominee for Governor.
Down Fido, Down!
To Cant Take It Anymore:
Why is Kinky a joke? Does he not have any ideas? We all know what the legislature provided us for school finance… oh right, NOTHING, after 6 trys.
I am sure the same was said about AH-Nuld and Jesse “the Body” Ventura too. How did their “joke campaigns turn out???
The problem with Texas dem’s supporting Bell is that they have this blind illusion that they have a better chance winning the governor’s mansion with Bell than someone that doesn’t come off as a tried and true politician. These people are the same folks who said, “you gotta support Sanchez, he’s the only choice”
At this point no one knows who might be running against Bell in the democratic primary, but knowing that the Texas Dem Party is out of money and knowing that Friedman’s campaign has already outraised his “insprirational” campaign, why would anyone NOT support getting Kinky on the ballot? What have the Texas democrats done to encourage the 71% who didnt vote in the last gubernatorial election to vote democrat?
Especially if he (Bell)is the only candidate the dems have for governor. One could easily bypass the primary season and then decide once the election came along which out of the three or more candidates that were able to get on the ballot they felt represented their views the best. Wouldn’t that be democracy in its truest form?
Besides it isnt like the democrats are inexperienced at turning their back on a democratic candidate for governor. Ask Gary Mauro.
Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey’s Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
