Have we found a Republican in Texas that introduces controversial legislation that makes sense? Senator Jon Lindsay (R-Houston) has introduced SB 127, which provides for anonymous needle exchange programs in Texas.
Although we’re pretty sure that Texas legislators will kill any Bill that makes as much sense as this one does, we’re still gonna look around for any needles we may have tossed around here. Maybe they’ll give cash back and we could score.
Seriously, we think needle exchange programs are a good thing. It’s a proven fact that these programs do not promote drug use but help addicts and prevent the spread of diseases like HIV. We can endorse this kind of thinking. Currently, over 80 cities in 38 states have needle exchange programs.

In contrast, Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) doesn’t want Texans to even have OTC access to DayQuil. From the Star-Telegram (http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/legislature/10664775.htm):
“Estes said he has been working with police agencies and prosecutors, who helped him craft his package of legislation that would prohibit over-the-counter sales of certain forms of pseudoephedrine, which is designed to relieve sinus pressure and shrink nasal tissue.”
well congrats go to Jon Lindsay for that one…but it hasn’t got a ghost of a chance being adopted by our Neanderthal legislators or being signed by that door-to-door Bible salesman, Rick Perry. The Republican majority knows that allowing needle exhanges just makes it easier to be a druggie…and why would they support that? Now, if they druggies had a PAC that could funnel money to Tom DeLay…then we’d see some action.
As for the Giants, their own happiness was short-lived as they lost to - who else?
